STUDENTS CAN CONNECT WITH LOCAL BUSINESSES AT SEVENTH ANNUAL CAREER EXPO

The 21st Century Education Foundation, in partnership with Anne Arundel Community College, is sponsoring its seventh annual Career Expo on March 8, 2014.  The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Jenkins Gymnasium on the college’s Arnold campus.

The Expo gives middle and high school students the opportunity to meet and talk with representatives from a variety of local businesses about the many career opportunities available, as well as learn about related courses that they can take to pursue specific career paths.

The free event is being sponsored for the third year by Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc. Other businesses participating include the architectural firm SHW Complete, the FBI, BGE, the Maryland Department of Transportation, the Anne Arundel County Police Department, and members of the film industry, among others.

Anne Arundel Community College advisers from a variety of departments will be available to talk with students about ways to prepare for their futures now as well as accessing the many opportunities available through the college.

Workshops with information about applying for college, preparing for success in college, getting a security clearance, and working in the public sector will also be offered at the Expo.

The high school with the highest percentage of students in attendance will receive $500 from the 21st Century Education Foundation to support its signature program. In addition, the high school teacher with the highest number of students in attendance will receive $500 to support his or her instructional programs and initiatives.
