ARUNDEL HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR ONE OF TWO FINALISTS FOR STUDENT MEMBER ON STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION

Arundel High School junior Christian Hodges is one of two finalists to be the 2013-2014 student member of the Maryland State Board of Education.

The names of Hodges and Benjamin Feshbach of Thomas S. Wootton High School in Montgomery County were sent to Governor Martin O’Malley after an election by members of the Maryland Association of Student Councils whittled the field from five candidates, three of whom were Anne Arundel County Public Schools students. The governor must make the final appointment.

“I am honored to have been chosen by my peers as a finalist for student member of the State Board of Education,” Hodges said. “It has been my dream to sit on the State Board since I entered high school, and now I am one step closer to reaching this dream and accomplishing this goal. I’d like to thank my principal, Mrs. Stratton, and Arundel High School for all of the support in getting me this far. I am looking forward to the Governor’s decision.”

The student member serves a one-year term during his or her senior year of high school, and has limited voting rights.

This is the 20th anniversary of the inception of the student member on the Maryland Board of Education.
