Did you know that the “summer slide” is estimated to account for 85% of the reading achievement gap existing among students? The good news is that parents and children can participate in a summer reading program that is fun, easy, and best of all, free! The Office of Equity and Accelerated Student Achievement is excited to partner with the Anne Arundel County Public Library to encourage participation in the “Summer Reading Club”, an AACPL program designed to actively engage students in learning throughout the summer and improve student achievement in the upcoming school year.
After signing up for the program at their local library, families select from a list of fun activities to be completed and record these activities in their summer reading logs; students who complete five weeks’ worth of activities are eligible to win a prize! Families can share their experiences by taking photos of themselves completing the various activities then tweeting the photos to #ReadWithMe @AACPL. Please see the link below for more details. So what are you waiting for? Get ready, get set, read to achieve!
