“We proudly recognize the achievements of students who participated in the AP Capstone Diploma program,” said Ms. Smith, South River Principal. “With the help of dedicated teachers, our AP Capstone students explored their passions through scholarly research as part of an impactful, multiyear program. This meaningful college readiness program will serve our students well after high school.”
“We wanted to demonstrate our school’s commitment to sustainability and environmental protection,” said Green Technologies Pathway lead and STEM teacher Charlotte Flury. “The garden makes me feel more attached to my community. I love seeing a splash of nature next to my school building.” said Macie Culpepper, Green Tech STEM student.
The University of Maryland’s A. James Clark School of Engineering has named South River High School as one of its Top 25 Source Schools for 2023.
The Clark School ranks 19 overall among more than 200 undergraduate engineering programs, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2023–24 Best Colleges rankings.
The University shared that it is greatly appreciative of South River HS for its excellent teachers and staff that have created essential links to the University’s in-state pipeline of outstanding undergraduates into their engineering programs. They are excited that the career field has a promising future knowing that the South River HS students will be included in the group that will provide leadership going forward. From artificial intelligence and autonomous systems to quantum technologies, semiconductors, and healthcare solutions, they feel that this group of University of Maryland engineers will become the leaders that develop the modern solutions needed for our ever changing society. The University extended its thanks to South River and AACPS STEM for the foundational work they do in education in the state of Maryland, future engineers, and society.
