Starting early on a warm, summer Sunday August morning, you could hear the faint hum of car engines in the distance.

Anticipation was growing from the question of, “what kind of cars will we see today?!” When the cars began to arrive, it was such a beautiful sight.

From the way the cars sparkled in the early morning sun, to the sweet hint of freshly brewed coffee floating in the air, you knew that the day was going to be special.

The variety of cars on display was something to marvel at. There were Corvettes, Porsches, Mustangs, Jaguars, “American Muscle” cars, and foreign luxury gems on display. These cars were from several different eras and they were in pristine condition. There is a specific type of dedication a person has to have to collect and maintain such cars and those people were the ones who decided to take a few hours of their time to give back to their local community and our AACPS students. This was Cars & Coffee at Westfield Annapolis Mall, August 2023.

Westfield Annapolis put the word out to the community that they would be supporting AACPS by hosting a school supply donation drive and the community responded by filling a large crate with school supplies that will help students on their path to achieve greatness.

Ms. Morgan McCloud, Westfield Annapolis’ Marketing Director, was excited about the opportunity to partner with AACPS and she was pleased with the turn out of community support. In planning the event, Ms. McCloud made sure there were activities for individuals of all ages to enjoy at the event to include face painting, balloon art, food trucks, a dj playing lively music, and performances by a local dance academy.

The Education Foundation of Anne Arundel County Public Schools was also present at the event to support celebrating the start of a new school year. The Foundation’s Board President, Mark Hoffmann came out to the event to support and share in the festivities with his family. Mr. Hoffmann shared his thoughts about the event, “I’m happy to see such a nice turn out for the kids. This year is going to be a great year for AACPS.”

Leathia Fletcher, from the AACPS Office of Business & Community Development, was also present to represent AACPS and receive the physical donations on the day of the event. Ms. Fletcher also informed individuals who sought to make monetary donations to AACPS and its student that they could, and still can, make donations via this link: https://www.21st-education.org/donatenow/
