The diverse interests of the students, families, teachers, and employees in AACPS are so great that the only limit is the sky, well, it was. The partnership between the Education Foundation of Anne Arundel County Public Schools and the family of Gregory Winton has created a scholarship that allows AACPS students aspiring to become pilots to literally soar in the clouds. Gregory S. Winton, Esq. was a prominent aviation attorney who resided in Anne Arundel County. He was an active member on the board of the Education Foundation of AACPS (formerly the 21st Century Foundation) because education was important to him and he wanted to contribute. Due to his love of flying, Mr. Winton became a flying instructor and trained many individuals. He took every opportunity to encourage young people to take an interest in aviation.

Mr. Winton passed away on July 4, 2021, at the age of 57. In honor of his passion for aviation, only July 5, 2021 the Winton Family established a scholarship to support AACPS students in pursuing their dreams of becoming pilots, allowing them to carry on his legacy in aviation.

In 2023, Nathan Aldridge (USAFA) and Spencer Clokey (Jacksonville University) became the first recipients of the Winton Scholarship. The Winton Family and the Education Foundation of AACPS are excited about assisting more aspiring young pilots in achieving their dreams through this scholarship.
