Annapolis Middle School, a Title I, IB Middle Years Programme School that serves grades 6-8, sent almost 40 students and 5 teachers to plunge in the ice cold Chesapeake Bay on February 2. 2023!

After a brief hiatus from the event in a glorious return, through the efforts of the students and the surrounding community, AMS raised almost $5000 for the 2023 Cool Schools Polar Bear Plunge. The combined effort of the school’s National Junior Honor Society (advised by Alex Tougas & Natasha Ogundare) and Student Government Association (advised by Breanna Walker) is a part of an initiative the school has put in place to encourage students to be active and engaged participants in their community.

On the day of the event several students were excited about getting in to the ice cold water and reveled in the experience. As for the students who passed on getting into the water, they said they were glad to be at the event and to see their classmates and teachers do something so exciting.

“AMS was excited to participate in the Cool Schools Polar Plunge! It was our first time participating in several years and we raised over $5000, which I believe is a school record. We look forward to expanding this event each year!” -Alex Tougas, National Jr. Honor Society Co-Advisor and AMS Polar Plunge Team Captain.
