I am an AACPS: Behavior Advocate, Glen Burnie Park Elementary
Walking into the doors of Old Mill Middle South in the summer of 2017 I didn’t know what to expect. All I knew was I finally had found a career that fits my purpose in life of making a difference.
Growing up in the Robinwood community of Annapolis, Md I learned and experienced a lot as a youth. One thing I always loved were adults who decided to be coaches, mentors, or just there for this in need. As a behavior advocate you are able to do many task some big, some small. The main task is that of “Bridging the Gap.” By that I mean building the rapport between student, teacher, staff, and even the community. An important factor in students success is their teacher understanding them. What motivates them or pushes them to learn and grow. Every student comes from a different situation, some a few steps ahead before the race of life even starts.
I take pride in learning about my students and bringing that information to their teacher and/or team to give each child the highest chance of success possible. So far in my journey I have had the pleasure to learn from great administration staff as well as counselors at multiple schools. They have helped me build my foundation and keep me motivated towards my dream of being a School Counselor. I wish everyone the best and leave you on this note: “Every kid is ONE caring adult away from being a success story.” -Josh Shipp
