Fulfilling My Dream as a Food Nutrition Worker

I am an AACPS: Employee, South Shore Elementary School

I have been with the Food Nutrition Services since 1992. I am originally from Copenhagen, Denmark where as a High School Senior, my project was to start our own school cafeteria. Schools in Denmark don’t have cafeterias, and my project was a very successful one. Now I am here, at South Shore Elementary, fulfilling my dream! The best part of my job is that I get to feed and interact with the children without having to discipline them. 🙂

In the last 20 years of food service for Anne Arundel County, we have seen tremendous change for the better. Now our lunches are nutritionally balanced with lots of fresh fruits and everyday of which the kids take full advantage of. Over the years, I have seen an increase in International Families which has allowed me to practice my foreign language skills. Being raised in Europe, we learned several languages and I speak six.

I am grateful for the team I work with here at South Shore. Keeping with tradition, my coworker, Birna Orlove, is from Nicaragua and is a tremendous help with the Spanish speaking population.
