Lyndsay Geddings

I am an AACPS: Teacher, Folger McKinsey Elementary School | 2019 Teacher of the Year Honoree

My philosophy of teaching grows from my own love of learning and the value I place on the relationships formed within the learning community. In my classroom, I strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment for all students built on trust and respect. I want my students to come to school excited for what’s to come knowing that it’s a place where they are valued, appreciated, and unconditionally supported. I set a tone in my classroom in which the students are encouraged to take risks knowing that they will be commended for their efforts and where they will be able to learn from their mistakes. In turn, I use these opportunities as building blocks to further their learning and the development of their growth mindset. I pride myself on my relationships with my students, their families, and my colleagues. I know that successful teaching and learning comes from all stakeholders working collaboratively towards a common goal. I’ve had the privilege of working with countless individuals who have provided me with the tools to be a well-rounded educator. My experiences through co-teaching, working in an IB school, and collaborating with Title 1 and G/T educators during my career has enabled me to reach all learners. My appreciation for these members has allowed me to become a strong leader within my schools who is aware of everyone’s value within the team. I’m committed to identifying and appreciating the good in all my students and celebrating their successes in hopes that it will inspire them to do the same with their peers and others. My classroom is inclusive of all learners. I celebrate, support, and accept student diversity and truly feel that each individual person contributes strengths which will benefit the good of the whole. Above all, I want my students to know that I am a devoted advocate for them not only when they are a part of my classroom but throughout their entire life.
