Making Sure No Student Goes Hungry

The Children’s Ministry of Severna Park United Methodist Church has supported Brooklyn Park Elementary School’s Backpack Buddies Program for the past six years.  Through this partnership, the Children’s Ministry collects and packs food for 18-25 students to take home over the weekend for their families.  An adult volunteer delivers the bags each Wednesday to be given out to students on Friday. The students are very excited to get the bags in the lockers and come looking for the bags if they are not there by lunch.  Students enjoy the peanut butter, ravioli, shelf life milk, applesauce and other food items that they get to share with their families.  During school holidays, the Children’s Ministry packs up double the amount of food for the families.  The students at Brooklyn Park also receive hats, gloves, coats, pajamas, and books, which means they always have something new to look forward to in their backpacks.   The Severna Park United Methodist Church is dedicated to ensuring that no student goes home hungry and are a true partner of our school community.
