Redemption Church: Going Above and Beyond to Support Our Teachers

Recognized for their support of AACPS by Magothy River Middle School

For the past five years Redemption Church Maryland has rented space from Magothy River Middle School to use for worship services and Sunday school classes. They come in, set up, and are always very careful to return every area to the condition they were in when they set up. However, their partnership goes far beyond the business transaction.

The church has a service mindset to Magothy River Middle School without expectation of return. They feed our staff twice a year—a breakfast and a lunch—and it is always a fulsome meal, well-planned and executed and always greatly appreciated! The lunches allow for some moments of fellowship among the staff, which can be hard to come by during a typical school day. Additionally, the staff often finds a carefully curated treat from the church in their mailboxes or in the mailroom. Teaching is a demanding job and the support of Redemption Church eases the burden, often just when staff need it.

Perhaps the most lasting impact of their partnership was the effort Redemption Church Maryland put forth in remodeling our school’s decrepit Teachers’ Lounge. The church gave the space a much-needed fresh coat of paint and supplied all new furniture and décor, plumbing work, a new sink, and a new countertop. The space is now a warm and welcoming place for a short break or a team lunch. In fact, there are a few teams that meet regularly for that brief period and it’s a relaxing time for them.

The church and its congregation see their support of the teachers and staff as part of their ministry, and their kindness and thoughtfulness is a boon to us.
