I am an AACPS: Behavior Specialist
Since being in the education field, I have spent the majority of my time working with vulnerable populations. I am currently a behavior specialist for the Department of Special Education, providing support to school-based professionals working with children who have behavioral and emotional challenges and helping to ensure these students’ needs are met.
I started working for AACPS in 2009. Working for AACPS has provided me the opportunity to grow my career from a teacher to specialist. Along the way, I have worked with and learned from many inspiring people: colleagues, supervisors, students, and families. Specifically, one of my former supervisors has served as one of my professional role models. She is still at AACPS, and continues to display top notch expertise and capability. Over the past few years, she has motivated me to grow professionally and has supported and encouraged my career decisions.
My daily life as a behavior specialist is varied and always stimulating. I travel to different schools (K-12) to consult with teams, observe students, and attend meetings. I deliver trainings and professional developments to AACPS staff on topics such as classroom management and verbal de-escalation. I also oversee placements for students who demonstrate a documented need for a different educational and/or therapeutic setting. I enjoy working with a diverse group of people at multiple schools, and working on an array of projects and students’ cases.
It has been very satisfying to work for AACPS and I feel my cumulative experiences in the education field have led me to a job that I love.
