This month, to kick off the start of the school year, we want to welcome everyone back and let you know that we are here to help! We help encourage collaborative relationships throughout our county in three ways: by offering support for schools’ outreach to parents and families, providing direct support and programming for families, and building community connections.
Support for schools’ outreach to parents and families:
- Consulting with schools on request about increasing family and community involvement
- Developing Parent Workshops to Go
- Training and support for volunteer programs
- Publication of Parent Link, a monthly newsletter
- Publication of Parent Wall Calendar, distributed to students at the beginning of the school year
- Training and support for bilingual facilitators who support positive connections between schools and language-minority families
- Coordination the Superintendent’s Parent Involvement Advisory Council (PIAC)
Direct support and programming for families
- Family involvement conferences, in the fall and spring
- Five AACPS-TV shows, two in English and three in Spanish
- Superintendent’s representative to the Anne Arundel County Council of PTAs (AACCPTA)
Community Connections
- Partnering with faith-based groups to sponsor Back to School Expos
- Connecting schools with community and faith-based groups to sponsor Weekend Food Programs
- Coordination of Harvest for the Hungry – Kids Helping Kids
