SCHOOL SYSTEM TO OFFER SAT TO ALL SENIORS IN HIGH SCHOOL BUILDINGS ON OCTOBER 14

High school seniors across the county will have the opportunity to take the SAT free of charge in school buildings next month under a plan approved by the Anne Arundel County Department of Health and announced by Superintendent George Arlotto today.

The SAT administration, which is open only to seniors, will take place in comprehensive high schools with enrolled seniors and at Chesapeake Science Point Public Charter School on Wednesday, October 14. Bus transportation to testing sites from all 77 elementary schools will be offered, though students can transport themselves or be driven to the sites.

Students will test in groups of no more than 10 to a classroom, and classrooms will be spread throughout school buildings to ensure physical distancing requirements are met. Teams of Anne Arundel County Public Schools staff will be on hand at all school sites to help students get to and from buildings and classrooms.

“This will be a herculean effort on the part of our staff, but it is well worth it to provide seniors with this vital opportunity,” Superintendent George Arlotto said.

Students will be required to wear masks at all times from the time they arrive at the bus stop on school grounds until the time they depart school grounds or the bus. Bottled water and snacks will be provided to students during the test administration and therefore should not be brought from home. Staff involved in the SAT administration will be masked at all times.

Students will be required to register no later than midnight on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, to take the SAT, and will also be required to register for bus transportation at that time as well if they plan to utilize that option. Because of logistical considerations necessary to carry out the SAT administration safely, no late registrations can be accepted.

Students will take the SAT at their home school. Students enrolled in Evening High School and at the Phoenix Academy will take the SAT at the school for which their home address is zoned. Students enrolled in magnet programs have the option to take the SAT at their magnet high school but must provide their own transportation. If transportation is required for a magnet student, that student will take the SAT at the school for which their home address is zoned.

Families of seniors will receive phone calls, emails, and text messages to their homes with registration information and more details in the coming weeks. Families who have questions or conflicts should contact their student’s school.
