For those who have advocated so long for a renovation at Richard Henry Lee Elementary School, reality is here.
The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County today approved nearly $18 million in contracts for the $39.8 million revitalization project at the 61-year-old building. Ranging from $389,000 to more than $4.8 million, the seven contracts address everything from site work to electrical, plumbing, concrete, masonry, and steel materials. Additional contracts for the project will come before the Board for approval at future Board meetings.
“Richard Henry Lee is a school that has needed to be upgraded for a long time, and this is a huge step forward for the parents and students in that community,” Board of Education President Julie Hummer said. “In the near future, our Board will also be considering contracts for the much-needed projects at Edgewater and Tyler Heights elementary schools, and those will be equally as exciting.”
The approximately 500 students projected to attend Richard Henry Lee will be housed at Corkran Middle School over the next two years. Both schools begin classes on Wednesday, September 5, one day later than most other students across the county, as previously planned and announced.
