UNITED WAY OF CENTRAL MARYLAND MAKES BIG CONTRIBUTION TO LIFT FAMILIES OUT OF CRISIS

In grants totaling $500,000, the United Way of Central Maryland recently made a major commitment to various Anne Arundel County non-profit organizations.

The largest contribution, $260,079, was awarded to the Anne Arundel Partnership for Children, Youth, & Families in support of the United Way’s Family Stability program that helps families on the verge of homelessness. In the effort to provide extensive resources and services to families in the Ft.Meade/Severn area, the program is implemented in conjunction with Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

Since May 2012, Family Stability programs have prevented 387 families in Maryland from becoming homeless, kept 570 children in their school of origin, and diverted 138 families from shelters into housing.

The other $240,000 in grant awards went to nine other non-profits to support various efforts such as, advocating for abused and neglected children, alleviating hunger, promoting senior citizen wellness, providing legal services to domestic abuse victims, and delivering supplemental educational programming.
