BACK-TO-SCHOOL PROGRAM COORDINATED BY AACPS, SOCIAL SERVICES IN DESPERATE NEED OF DONATIONS

The annual Back-to-School Program coordinated by Anne Arundel County Public Schools and the Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services has received thousands of donations for needy students this year, but the program still needs donations for more than 3,000 students for the upcoming school year.

The program annually matches donors with local elementary schools to help provide back-to-school supplies to students who need them. Donors purchase backpacks stocked with all the required materials, and then deliver the backpacks to the students’ respective schools.

“Our school system is continuing to grow, but we are also seeing a significant increase in the number of needy children and families we are serving,” said Teresa Tudor, AACPS’ Senior Manager for School and Family Partnerships. “Children who don’t have the necessary supplies for class are behind from the first day of school, and we as a county need to do everything we can to prevent that from happening.
