BOARD OF EDUCATION ANNOUNCES THREE FINALISTS IN SEARCH FOR NEXT SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County today announced it has narrowed the field of candidates for the next Superintendent of Anne Arundel County Public Schools to three following interviews with six semifinalists last weekend.

The finalists are:

  • Dr. George Arlotto, Chief of Staff and former Associate Superintendent for School Performance, Anne Arundel County Public Schools
  • Francisco Durán, Superintendent, Trenton (N.J.) Public Schools
  • Dr. Maureen McMahon, Assistant Superintendent for Advanced Studies and Programs, Anne Arundel County Public Schools

A diverse 20-member panel of county residents will interview each of the finalists and provide input to the Board as the process continues. The Board will also meet with each of the finalists again prior to arriving at a decision.

“Our stakeholder panel is going to provide very valuable feedback as we prepare to make our final selection,” said Stacy Korbelak, chair of the Board’s Superintendent Search Committee. “We are very fortunate to have had a high-quality field of applicants and no matter who our final choice is, our school system and our children will be getting an incredibly talented leader who will help move us forward.”

As prescribed by state law, the appointee will begin his or her four-year term as Superintendent on July 1, 2014. Interim Superintendent Mamie J. Perkins’ contract expires on June 30, 2014.

The Board plans to make a formal appointment on April 23, 2014.
