I am an AACPS: Parent | Volunteer

As a parent of two students that have benefited from the incredibly supportive school community at Nantucket Elementary, I wanted to take a few minutes to recognize the school. My daughter is currently in 6th grade, and she completed K-5th at Nantucket, and my son is currently a 4th grader in the school.

My first impression of the school was when I went to enroll my daughter into Kindergarten, which is a scary thing as you are now entrusting others with your child for the majority of the day. I remember sitting there at the table, filling out the forms and getting a bit teary-eyed. One of the ladies in the office noticed that I was getting a bit choked up, and immediately came over to me to assure me that my child would be in the best of hands. Looking back now, I could not agree more!

My next impression was the first day of school for my daughter. I remember walking her to the back door and how excited she was to start her new adventure. Again, I got a bit choked up, and then immediately was greeted by a teacher who took my daughter’s hand and told me that she was going to have an amazing day. I snapped a picture of that moment and to this day still reflect on it with many fond memories.

Throughout the course of my children’s time at Nantucket, I could not have hoped for a better experience for them. The school offers may opportunities for children to develop not only academically, but socially and emotionally as well. I can confidently say that every individual in the school who has touched the lives of my children over the past 7 years has truly had the best interest of my CHILD in mind. I feel that the school actively encourages and engages each student to reach their maximum potential, while exposing them to many new ideas and concepts.  The administration is incredibly supportive, the guidance counselor is phenomenal, and the teaching and support staff are absolutely fantastic. Although Nantucket is one of the largest schools in the county, one would never realize that from the individualized attention and time they invest in each and every student.  As an active volunteer, I have witnessed this firsthand every time I help out in the school.

Academically speaking, I feel that the school did a fantastic job in setting my daughter up for success in Middle School. She was well prepared for the new challenges and opportunities that were ahead of her. I truly believe that Nantucket is a school where the collaborative efforts of the entire staff provide an engaging learning experience for all students.  The students are made a part of the process, and their opinions and ideas not only matter, but are important and listened to.

THANK YOU to the entire Nantucket school community for providing these wonderful life experiences to my children! I am forever grateful.
