The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) was founded in 1897 in Washington D.C. The PTA is the largest child advocacy organization in the U.S. with over 7 million members nationally and 239,000 members in the state of Maryland. The PTA speaks for all children in the state and the nation, providing a unified presence when action is required on important issues facing our schools and our students. It also provides information and support to parents and concerned community members. The PTA offers the opportunity to serve, volunteer, and to contribute to the welfare of all children.
Both the national PTA and Maryland PTA have a wealth of resources for families and schools looking to increase meaningful family engagement.
Many schools in AACPS have active PTA chapters. The Anne Arundel County Council of PTAs (AACCPTA) is an umbrella group that provides support, mentoring, training and networking opportunities to local chapters. The School & Family Partnerships office acts as the Superintendent’s representative to AACCPTA.
