{"id":14184,"date":"2019-02-05T14:39:59","date_gmt":"2019-02-05T18:39:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/aacpsschools.org\/development\/?p=14184"},"modified":"2019-11-19T16:59:19","modified_gmt":"2019-11-19T20:59:19","slug":"chasity_mcghee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aacpsschools.org\/development\/2019\/02\/05\/chasity_mcghee\/","title":{"rendered":"Words of Encouragement for Kinship Caregivers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fusion-one-full fusion-layout-column fusion-column-last fusion-spacing-yes\" style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:20px;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper\"><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-sep-none fusion-title-size-two\"><h2 class=\"title-heading-left\">Chasity McGhee<\/h2><\/div><h3><strong>I am an AACPS:<\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pupil Personnel Worker<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Kinship care is something I can relate to personally.\u00a0 Being raised by my grandparents, I know firsthand how it feels to not reside with a biological parent.\u00a0 Many of the cases I assist with as a Pupil Personnel Worker are grandparents raising their grandchildren.\u00a0 I wanted to provide a word of encouragement for families who are experiencing similar situations.<\/p>\n<p>First, you are appreciated.\u00a0 It may seem difficult now but trust me, your grandchild(ren) will remember the blood, sweat, tears and sacrifices made for them.\u00a0 When I was younger, I thought my grandparents were too strict.\u00a0 I truly felt like there was no room to breathe and that they were just being too tough on me.\u00a0 Well let me tell you, the older me really appreciates the experience, morals and values taught by my grandparents.\u00a0 My grandfather passed when I was in the twelfth grade and I still remember EVERYTHING he taught me. My grandmother is ninety years old and is still my biggest role model.<\/p>\n<p>Secondly, keep teaching things the \u201cold fashion way.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s nothing wrong with doing things the simple way. It\u2019s nothing wrong with teaching your grandchildren to \u201ctreat others how they want to be treated.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s nothing wrong with washing dishes, cleaning and cooking.\u00a0 All those things made me a better woman today.\u00a0 Those life skills can only be gained through experience.\u00a0 I ask that you continue to provide those experiences to our youth.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, show your grandchild(ren) how to unconditionally love.\u00a0 There is nothing on earth greater than family.\u00a0 I still yearn to hear \u201cI love you\u201d from my Grandmother.\u00a0 I talk to her multiple times a week and I still miss her voice.\u00a0 My grandmother taught us that nothing should come between family and when things become difficult, allow the love we have for each other to guide us to a resolution.<\/p>\n<p>I want to personally thank all the Grandparents who are stepping up and providing consistency, love, shelter, responsibility and all other things that make successful men and women.\u00a0 There is an old saying, \u201cIt takes a village to raise a child;\u201d just remember, you are making a difference!<\/p>\n<div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Kinship care is something I can relate to personally.
