{"id":10488,"date":"2017-05-25T10:06:02","date_gmt":"2017-05-25T14:06:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/aacpsschools.org\/development\/?p=10488"},"modified":"2017-05-25T10:06:02","modified_gmt":"2017-05-25T14:06:02","slug":"dot_arida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aacpsschools.org\/development\/2017\/05\/25\/dot_arida\/","title":{"rendered":"Coming Home to Serve the School System that Served Me"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Dot Arida<\/h2>\n<p><strong>I am an AACPS:<\/strong> Alum, <em>Northeast High School<\/em> | Employee<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As a student in AACPS, I looked at my teachers with a different eye than other students.\u00a0 For as long as I can remember I wanted to be a teacher.\u00a0 Because of my strong desire to teach, I was the first in my family to attend college.\u00a0 I am almost certain that had I not had the desire to teach, I would not have gone to college.\u00a0 Upon graduation from Frostburg State University, I only applied to teach in one county.\u00a0 I was determined to come home to teach and didn&#8217;t want to work in any other district.\u00a0 My experience in AACPS was a good one and I wanted to share that with other students.\u00a0 My teachers over the years were encouraging and challenging.\u00a0 My goal was to be the same for my students.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">After 10 years of teaching, I began my work in AVID, an academic program designed to help students in the &#8220;academic middle&#8221; develop consistent study and organizational habits that will carry them through life. AVID fosters a culture where students are always looking forward with the support they need to reach their future college and\/or career goals. \u00a0I am passionate about AVID because I needed AVID.\u00a0 As a first generation college student I did not know how to apply for college or scholarships.\u00a0 I wasn&#8217;t confident that I had the skills to hit the ground running once I started at a four year school.\u00a0 Student acceptance and preparation for college drives my passion for my work.\u00a0 I want to help all graduates have skills and confidence to begin their college educations or careers.\u00a0 I also want to encourage all of our future teachers to come back to AACPS to teach.\u00a0 Returning to my own school system is one of the best decisions I have made.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Upon graduation from Frostburg State University, I only applied to teach in one county.
