{"id":4487,"date":"2013-10-04T18:49:41","date_gmt":"2013-10-04T18:49:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/aacpsschools.org\/development\/?page_id=4487"},"modified":"2023-02-14T14:56:56","modified_gmt":"2023-02-14T19:56:56","slug":"ap-program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/aacpsschools.org\/development\/ap-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Non-Public School Funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2015, the <\/span><b><i>Every Student Succeeds Act<\/i><\/b> <b>(ESSA)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> established a nationwide aid program to benefit students, teachers, and other educational personnel from public and non-public schools across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>This bipartisan measure reauthorizes the 50-year-old Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), the nation\u2019s national education law and longstanding commitment to equal opportunity for all students.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>The new law builds on key areas of progress in recent years, made possible by the efforts of educators, communities, parents, and students across the country.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>For example, today, high school graduation rates are at all-time highs. Dropout rates are at historic lows. And more students are going to college than ever before. This includes projects funded directly from the federal government as well as projects from Maryland State agencies that distribute ESSA funding (such as Title I, Part A,\u00a0 Title II, Part A, Title III, and Title IV, Part A).<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Title I, Part A: Improving Academic Achievement of Disadvantaged Students<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Title I, Part A grants provide all children a significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close educational achievement gaps.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Title I accomplishes this by providing effective, supplemental, high quality instruction for eligible students, professional development for their teachers, and parent and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">family engagement activities for the families of eligible children. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please note that AACPS ONLY services K-8 Students<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Title II, Part A: Professional Development for Teachers, Principals, and Educational Personnel<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Title IIA provides funds for professional development activities designed to improve the knowledge of teachers and principals in the core academic subjects.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Title III: Language Instruction for English Learners and Immigrant Students<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Title III is to help ensure that English Learners (EL) including immigrants, attain English proficiency.
