Nisa Morris
I am an AACPS: Teacher, Brooklyn Park Elementary School | 2020 Teacher of the Year Honoree
Nisa’s journey to education started as a child at Georgetown East Elementary. Nisa’s passion for motivating students started in the 4th grade. She started to work with students in the ECI Program and asked if she could work with students during her lunch and recess break. Nisa’s passion to work with students could not be contained and her passion grew to include inviting her friends to work with other ECI students. Her commitment to “ALL” started early, and she knew that she could impact the lives of others with her passion. As Nisa matriculated though middle school and high school, her passion for children did not change. As for many, our pathway is impacted by a mentor, teacher or principal. Nisa’s path became clear when her loving grandfather introduced her to Sue Myers, Principal of Annapolis Elementary. Sue reinstalled her passion and Nisa’s goal to become an educator became clear. Nisa started to volunteer at the Stanton Center and Georgetown East. Her commitment to the students of Annapolis continued through college as she mentored, volunteered and student taught.
Nisa’s first teaching position began at Monarch Global in Laurel. While at Monarch, she instilled the 8 concepts of PYP: Form, Function, Causation, Change, Connection, Perspective, Responsibility and Reflection in her 2nd Grade and Kindergarten Classrooms.
Nisa’s journey has taken her to Brooklyn Park Elementary where she is teaching Pre-Kindergarten. Before Nisa was selected, I reached out to her Assistant Principal. He stated the following” Nisa is a rock star and is committed to her students and community. ” Your school will be a better place because of Nisa” In Nisa’s two years at BPES, I am in total agreement about Nisa’s commitment and instruction. She has transitioned from half-day Pre-Kindergarten to full day Pre-Kindergarten. She is the Team Lead for Pre-Kindergarten and is focused on being a Reading Teacher. Nisa is focused on enriching experience, rigorous instruction and positive relationships for all. Because of her commitment, I nominate her for Teacher of the Year.
