Providence Center

We are an AACPS: Business/Community Partnership | 2020 Business Partner of the Year Nominee

Recognized for their support of AACPS by Old Mill High School

The Providence Center is an invaluable nonprofit organization in Anne Arundel County. Serving individuals with disabilities, the Providence Center provides opportunities for its clients to enjoy more “self determination in leading a more independent, valuable, and functioning role in society.”

Aimee Bullen, the Development Manager with Providence Center, has been actively involved in the Signature program at Old Mill High School for the last three years. In 2017, Aimee hosted students from the Signature: International Economics & Finance Explorations course at the Providence Center’s Arnold location. Students were given a tour of the facility and spoke with Aimee and others about challenges the Center was experiencing. Students put together a business-minded solution to those challenges and presented their ideas to Providence Center leadership.

Since that time, Aimee has joined the Integrated Community Stakeholder’s Team as an active and regular contributing member. The ICST is an advisory board composed of local community and business partners that offers input, guidance, and feedback about the Signature program at Old Mill. Through ICST, Aimee has offered input on new Signature courses, professional opportunities for Old Mill students, and has advocated for inclusion and equity in program offerings. Aimee supports the Signature program in other ways as well. She participates as an interviewer during the annual Mock Interview Program, bringing colleagues with her to assist in interviewing our English 11 students. Aimee is a regular attendee of the Signature Networking Breakfast, an annual event which connects students with professionals from a variety of career fields, and again brings others with her to interact with our students.

The chairman of the Old Mill High School Signature ICST, Michael Schutt, said “Aimee’s thoughtful insight, regular contributions and willingness to develop programs with the Providence Center makes her a very valuable member of Old Mill’s ICST. She volunteers her time for meetings and special Signature events as well as opening the Providence Center to provide some hands-on experiences for students. Aimee is all-in when it comes to the ICST and that is the reason she is an easy choice as our Nominee for Business Partner of the Year.”

It is no small thing for community members to partner with local schools. Taking time to volunteer and connect an organization to specific school programs requires more than a professional interest. The Providence Center supports many former AACPS students through their services, and we are happy to have Aimee Bullen as a crucial part of the Signature: International Economics & Finance Program at Old Mill High School.
