The Backpack Buddy program was designed to provide meals to students struggling with food insecurity over the weekend. Coldwell Banker has partnered with Germantown Elementary School to provide the Backpack Buddy program for four years. Germantown Elementary school’s school counselor, bi-lingual facilitator and, literacy teacher at Germantown Elementary school, work together to identify and meet the needs of our neediest students. Each week, they pack 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 2 dinners for six students to take home over the weekend. The students and their families, who may not otherwise have food over the weekend, are so appreciative to be in the program. They light up when they see me coming down the hall with their weekend bags on Friday’s and can’t wait to see what food they will receive. Stealy Ashley, salesperson at Coldwell Banker, and her team vary the meals each week so the children do not get bored. T Ashley and her team have provided generous donations of time and resources to the project. The Backpack Buddy program would not be the same without their support.
