I am an AACPS: Grandparent, Richard Henry Lee Elementary School
When my grandson started 4th grade this year, I knew after the first few weeks that he was struggling. He is very hyper and has anger problems along with being overly aggressive. His teacher, Mrs. Nodtvedt, took a special interest in my grandson and contacted me on a weekly basis about his challenges. She and I constantly kept in touch through e-mail. She let me know if he had a bad week or if something had happened that caused him to be written up and given a Think Sheet to complete. I truly appreciated her taking the time out of her busy day to keep me posted so I could talk with my grandson at home if needed. One thing that I truly appreciate is that she not only told me when there were problems but let me know if he had had a great day and if he had done something good for another student. In the past I was only contacted if there was a problem.
Through Mrs. Nodtvedt’s kind and compassionate ways, my grandson has come a long way since the beginning of the year. He is able to complete his class work without being disruptive to the rest of the class, remains in his seat and doesn’t walk around the classroom whenever he feels like it. Because Mrs. Nodtvedt showed him that she really cared about him he has become a totally different person. She showed him that she believed in him and knew he was capable of being a great kid and student. He tries extra hard every day to do good and to be a good person. My grandson believes in himself now and knows he can do anything he puts his mind to. He is excelling in so many areas of his life now and I want everyone to know that Mrs. Nodtvedt is an exceptional teacher and person. I want to thank her for everything she has done for my family. I honestly don’t know where he would be today if he had any other teacher. I believe that God placed her in his life to show him that people do believe in him and care about him,not just his family. Thank you Mrs. Nodtvedt and God Bless you.
