BOARD OF EDUCATION APPROVES COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION TO HIRE FIRM TO CONDUCT SEARCH FOR NEW SUPERINTENDENT

The Board of Education tonight unanimously approved recommendation by its ad hoc Superintendent Search Committee to hire an outside firm to lead the search for a new Anne Arundel County Public Schools superintendent.

Committee Chair Stacy Korbelak told the Board the committee arrived at its recommendation after consulting a number of school systems throughout Maryland as well as talking with former AACPS Board members who had been involved with superintendent searches. The Board also has had two presentations from the Maryland Association of Boards of Education (MABE) regarding the search process.

The recommendation approved by the Board calls for the committee to solicit proposals from the three firms used by other Maryland school systems: MABE, Iowa-based Ray & Associates, and Illinois-based Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates. Proposals are due by October 21, with the Board aiming to select a firm by November 1.

The firm selected would be responsible for gathering public input on desired characteristics of the next superintendent this fall, recruiting and screening applicants during the winter, and assisting the Board with arranging candidate interviews next spring.
