OFFICE FOR CIVIL RIGHTS PARENTS AND COMMUNITY FORUM TO ADDRESS PROGRESS AND CHALLENGES RELATED TO ELIMINATING ACHIEVEMENT GAPS

Parents and county residents who have questions about Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ efforts to eliminate achievement gaps for all students can get answers and more information during the school system’s annual spring Parents and Community Forum on May 23, 2013.

The free forum, part of the Office for Civil Rights Memorandum of Agreement, is being facilitated by AACPS’ Office of Equity Assurance and Human Relations and will focus on how the school system is attempting to ensure opportunities for greater academic success and diversity in higher-level academic programs. It will run from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Bates Legacy Center, located at 1101 Smithville Street in Annapolis.

This year’s forum will not only include an update on progress toward the only goal in AACPS’ current Strategic Plan – “To ensure that every student meets or exceeds standards as achievement gaps are eliminated” – but will feature a recognition of students who have benefited from those efforts.

Nationally recognized motivational speaker Darrell “Coach D” Andrews will provide the keynote address.
