SUPERINTENDENT GEORGE ARLOTTO CANCELS ALL SCHOOL SYSTEM OUT-OF-STATE AND OUT-OF-COUNTRY FIELD TRIPS, STAFF TRAVEL

Superintendent George Arlotto today announced the immediate cancellation of all school system out-of-state and out-of-country field trips and staff travel due to concerns about coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.

“This is a situation that is changing rapidly and while we want to maintain as much of a sense of normalcy with regard to our school system operations, out of an abundance of caution it is prudent at this time to limit field trips and travel to that which occurs inside the state of Maryland,” Dr. Arlotto said. “I will not put any program or experience ahead of the health and well-being of our students and staff.”

Dr. Arlotto’s decision follows a similar announcement by Gov. Larry Hogan, who canceled all out-of-state travel for state employees earlier today. Dr. Arlotto’s decision is in effect until further notice.

Dr. Arlotto and school system staff are in daily communication with the Anne Arundel County Department of Health to receive guidance and advice on issues related to COVID-19.
