REDISTRICTING COMMITTEE TO EXAMINE ATTENDANCE BOUNDARIES FOR NEW CROFTON AREA HIGH SCHOOL

NOTE: Corrects dates of October meetings of the committee

A committee of parents and community residents, aided by school system officials, is set to begin studying the possibilities with regard to establishing attendance boundaries and feeder patterns for the new Crofton Area High School, which is set to open in September 2020.

The committee consists of two representatives each from every potentially impacted school: Arundel and South River high schools; Arundel and Crofton middle schools; and Crofton, Crofton Meadows, Crofton Woods, Nantucket, and Piney Orchard elementary schools. The fact that a school is represented on the committee does not necessarily mean that the school’s attendance area or feeder pattern will change.

An organizational meeting of the committee will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, in the auditorium at Arundel High School. The committee also is scheduled to meet from 7 to 9 p.m. at the same location on October 2, 9, 16, and 23.

The committee may choose to have additional meetings. All committee meetings are open to the public.  Public input is welcome at all meetings except the initial organizational meeting.

The committee will make a recommendation to schools Superintendent George Arlotto in November. Dr. Arlotto will forward his recommendations to the Board of Education no later than the first Board meeting in December. The Board will conduct public hearings on the plans before reaching a decision no later than April 30, 2019.

The school system’s redistricting timeline is attached to this news release. As meetings take place, more information will be posted on the school system’s web site.
