GLEN BURNIE HIGH SCHOOL’S ANDREA SPORRE A FINALIST FOR MARYLAND SCHOOL LIBRARIAN OF THE YEAR

Glen Burnie High School media specialist Andrea Sporre was recently named as a finalist for the top award bestowed by the Maryland Association of School Librarians. The winner of the Librarian of the Year will be announced at the Common Ground Conference in May.

“Andrea is an exemplary library media specialist and leader who sees that the mission of the library media center is to be a source of exploration, discovery, and learning,” Anne Arundel County Public Schools Digital Media Coordinator Cathy Gillette wrote in nominating Sporre for the award.

Sporre has prepared a speech for the occasion, hoping to hear her name called during the annual breakfast next month.

“Our students have big ideas and we not only give them the foundation on which to build those ideas, but the tools and the space to create new ones,” she said. “Isn’t that what we want for them, to learn the lessons of the past and create a better future? The school library is a place for our students to succeed in endeavors we can’t even imagine.”

The conference takes place May 3-4 in Ocean City.
