BOARD OF EDUCATION TO RECEIVE UPDATE ON SCHOOL SYSTEM’S WELLNESS EFFORTS AT APRIL 4, 2018, MEETING

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County will hear an update on the wellness programs and initiatives in place in Anne Arundel County Public Schools at its next meeting, scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, in the Board Room at the Parham Building, 2644 Riva Road, Annapolis.

The presentation will coincide with Healthy Anne Arundel Month, and will cover the work of AACPS’ Wellness Council, a collaborative effort with multiple agencies to enhance the health and wellness of students and employees. In particular, the presentation will cover 10 components of the Centers for Disease Control’s School Health Model and will share evidence-based strategies and positive outcomes observed in Anne Arundel County public schools through this collaborative approach.

Also at the meeting, the Board will consider approval of six new courses and hear a briefing from county and school system officials on the Fiber Data Network program, which provides the infrastructure to connect all school system buildings to two data centers.

Wednesday’s meeting will be held in the Board Room at the Parham Building, 2644 Riva Road, Annapolis. The Board will meet in a public session at 8:00 a.m. for the sole purpose of voting to go into closed session, during which time it will discuss confidential matters as permitted by the Maryland Open Meetings Act including, but not limited to, legal advice, personnel, and negotiations. Closed session is not open to the public. The public session of the meeting will resume at 10 a.m.

The general session of Wednesday’s Board meeting will be broadcast live on AACPS-TV, which can be found on Channel 96 on Comcast and Broadstripe, and Channel 36 on Verizon. High definition broadcasts can be seen on Channel 996 on Comcast, Channel 496 on Broadstripe, and Channel 1961 on Verizon. Rebroadcasts are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. the day after the meeting and 2:00 p.m. on subsequent Sundays.
