REDISTRICTING COMMITTEE TO EXAMINE BOUNDARY ADJUSTMENTS FOR FERNDALE EARLY EDUCATION CENTER, GEORGE CROMWELL AND HILLTOP ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

A committee of parents and community residents is set to begin studying the possibilities with regard to adjusting the boundaries for students at the Ferndale Early Education Center and George Cromwell and Hilltop elementary schools.

The committee will study options available, to the extent possible, to best utilize space being created by the $32.7 million revitalization project now under way at George Cromwell Elementary School. The project will create room for an additional 130 students, potentially allowing kindergarten students now at Ferndale to move to Cromwell.

An organizational meeting of the committee will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at George Cromwell Elementary School, located at 525 Wellham Ave. in Glen Burnie. The committee is also scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at the Ferndale Early Education Center, located at 105 Packard Ave. in Glen Burnie.

The committee may choose to have additional meetings. All committee meetings are open to the public.  Public input is welcome at all meetings except the organizational portion of Thursday’s meeting.

The committee will make a recommendation to schools Superintendent George Arlotto in November. Dr. Arlotto will forward his recommendation to the Board of Education no later than the first Board meeting in December. The Board will conduct public hearings on the plans before reaching a decision no later than April 30, 2018.

The school system’s redistricting timeline is attached to this email. As meetings take place, more information will be posted on the school system’s web site, www.aacps.org.
