STUDENT BOARD MEMBER LUSIA COLE SET TO TAKE OATH OF OFFICE ON JULY 11, 2017

Lusia Cole, a rising senior at Chesapeake Science Point Public Charter School, will be sworn in as the 44th student member of the Board of Education of Anne Arundel County during a ceremony at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, in the office of Circuit Court Clerk Robert P. Duckworth at the county courthouse in Annapolis.

Lusia was officially appointed to the seat today by Governor Larry Hogan, Jr.  She succeeds Carolyn Williams, a Glen Burnie High School graduate whose one-year term ended last month. Anne Arundel County’s student member of the Board is the only one in the nation serving on a local board of education who has full voting rights.

Lusia will take part in the Board’s first meeting of the 2017-2018 school year, scheduled for July 12, 2017.

Also serving on the Board are Teresa Milio Birge of Odenton, Terry Gilleland of Millersville, Eric Grannon of Davidsonville, Julie Hummer of Laurel, Stacy Korbelak of Odenton, Patricia Nalley of Annapolis, and Maria Delores Sasso of Annapolis. The Board currently has one vacant at-large seat.
