BOARD OF EDUCATION ANNOUNCES OPPORTUNITIES FOR PUBLIC INPUT ABOUT TWO REDISTRICTING PROCESSES

The Board of Education today announced its schedule of public briefings, public hearings, and upcoming votes regarding the redistricting processes now under way in the Broadneck and Annapolis areas.

The Board is currently considering a recommendation from Superintendent George Arlotto regarding redistricting students from Broadneck Elementary School to Cape St. Claire Elementary School. A committee is also now examining the possibilities regarding redistricting schools on the Annapolis Peninsula, including students who live north of the South River but are assigned to attend Edgewater Elementary School, Central Middle School, and South River High School.

The Board has announced the following schedule with respect to both processes:

BROADNECK/CAPE ST. CLAIRE REDISTRICTING

  • Superintendent’s recommendation, 10 a.m., December 7, 2016
  • Board vote on options to take to public hearing, 10 a.m., January 18, 2017
  • Community briefing on options going to public hearing, 7 to 9 p.m., February 21, 2017, Cape St. Claire Elementary School
  • Public hearing on Board-approved redistricting options only, 6 p.m., March 7, 2017, Broadneck High School
  • Board of Education vote on redistricting, 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2017 (No public testimony will be taken at this meeting)

ANNAPOLIS PENINSULA REDISTRICTING

  • Superintendent’s recommendation, 10 a.m., February 15, 2017
  • Board vote on options to take to public hearing, 10 a.m., March 1, 2017
  • Community briefing on options going to public hearing, 7 to 9 p.m., March 14, 2017, Parham Building
  • Public hearing on Board-approved redistricting options only, 6 p.m., April 3, 2017, Annapolis High School
  • Board of Education vote on redistricting, 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2017 (No public testimony will be taken at this meeting)
