BOARD OF EDUCATION TO RECEIVE RECOMMENDATION ON REDISTRICTING OF BROADNECK AND CAPE ST. CLAIRE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County will receive a recommendation from Superintendent George Arlotto to adjust the attendance boundaries for Broadneck and Cape St. Claire elementary schools at its next meeting, scheduled for December 7, 2016.

A committee composed of representatives from the two schools was charged with examining possibilities to alleviate, to the extent possible, overcrowding at Broadneck Elementary School by utilizing available space at Cape St. Claire Elementary School, effective in September 2017. The committee voted to recommend the Board take no action.

Dr. Arlotto’s recommendation would redistrict students living in the communities of College Parkway Place, Deep Creek Village, and Quaker Ridge from Broadneck Elementary School to Cape St. Claire Elementary School. Under Dr. Arlotto’s recommendation, current fourth-graders at Broadneck Elementary School affected by the redistricting would be offered the option to remain at the school for fifth grade.

The Board will consider Dr. Arlotto’s recommendation and any other alternatives and decide which options to take to a public hearing later this year. Under Board policy, a redistricting plan must be adopted by April 30, 2017.

A complete agenda for the meeting accompanies this news release. More information on all agenda items will be posted on the AACPS website in the Board Docs section under the Board of Education tab.
