BOARD APPROVES FISCAL YEAR 2016 NEGOTIATED AGREEMENTS WITH BARGAINING UNITS REPRESENTING PRINCIPALS, SECRETARIES

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County tonight approved agreements with the Association of Educational Leaders (AEL) and the Secretaries and Administrative Assistants of Anne Arundel County (SAAAAC), as well as formally setting terms of employment for employees not represented by a bargaining unit.

The AEL and SAAAAC agreements were each approved by their respective membership earlier this month. AEL represents administrators, including principals and assistant principals, across the school system.

The one-year SAAAAC agreement, approved by an 8-0 vote with one abstention, provides members with a 2 percent compensation increase and either a one-day reduction in the work year or an additional day of leave. To help fund the increase, the agreement eliminates stipends that had been allocated to teachers in schools identified as “challenged.” Stipends have previously been awarded to SAAAAC members assigned to such schools.

The two-year agreement with AEL, approved by an 8-1 vote, provides a 1.25 percent compensation increase for all members. It also maintains stipends allocated to AEL members in schools identified as “challenged,” a provision eliminated in the other three negotiated agreements.

The terms of employment adopted by the Board for employees not represented by bargaining units, approved unanimously, call for a 2 percent compensation increase and an additional day of leave in the current fiscal year.

All compensation increases are retroactive to July 1, 2015.
