AACPS ATHLETICS SPONSORS SYMPOSIUM ON NCAA ATHLETICS

College applications can be difficult to navigate, but when you add all of the compliance requirements of the NCAA for student-athletes, it can become completely overwhelming for high school students. That’s why the Anne Arundel County Public Schools Office of Athletics is sponsoring a symposium titled “Taking Responsibility for your Future” from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, at Glen Burnie High School.

This seminar is open to student-athletes in grades 8 through 10, their families, AACPS coaches, and guidance counselors.

Topics that are expected to be discussed include:

  • Admission process
  • Recruiting process from a coach’s perspective
  • Admission and recruitment process from an athlete’s prospective
  • Differences between Division I, II, and III
  • A day in the life of a college student-athlete

There will also be a question-and-answer session. Coaches of men’s and women’s intercollegiate athletics teams will participate.

Among the recent changes in NCAA athletics are that athletic scholarships can cover not only the traditional tuition, room, board, books, and fees, but also incidental costs of attending college, such as transportation and personal expenses.
