ANNUAL SPANISH IMMERSION CAMP SET TO KICK OFF AT ARLINGTON ECHO OUTDOOR EDUCATION CENTER

Nearly 80 students who will be in first through fifth grades when school opens in August 2015 will learn the basics of Spanish and develop cultural awareness June 29 through July 2 at Campo del Bosque, Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ Spanish immersion camp held at the Arlington Echo Outdoor Education Center in Millersville.

After presenting their pasaportes, which are stamped at the entrada by officials at inmigracíon, students will enter a world where they will be immersed in Hispanic culture and speak the Spanish language. Campers will take part in word games, skits, music, art, and outdoor exercises. They will also gain an introduction or enhance their existing speaking skills while learning about the cultures in which Spanish is spoken.

Camp coordinators will lead a staff of native and non-native Spanish-speaking county teachers who will provide a challenging Spanish-only environment in which students can gain a deep appreciation for the language and culture.

Other camp activities include seining, crabbing, sail decorating, swimming, and canoeing.

The camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, Monday-Thursday.
