BOARD OF EDUCATION TO DISCUSS, FORMALLY APPROVE 2015-2016 SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR AT NOVEMBER 5, 2014, MEETING

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County is scheduled to give formal approval to the 2015-2016 School Year Calendar and tentatively approve a calendar for the 2016-2017 school year at its next meeting, set for November 5, 2014.

The draft 2015-2016 calendar approved by the school system Calendar Committee – a group that consists of AACPS employees, students, and representatives of employee bargaining units and parent groups – builds in five days for inclement weather closings with the following stipulations:

The days would be subtracted from the end of the school year if not needed for emergency closings.

If more than between six and nine makeup days are needed, they will be taken from Easter/Spring break in the order listed in the calendar.

The draft calendar also maintains the traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas/Winter breaks.

The Board is also scheduled to give tentative approval to a 2016-2017 School Year Calendar to allow parents and employees to begin to plan for vacations and other travel more than a year in advance.

A complete agenda for the meeting accompanies this news release. More information on agenda items can be found on the AACPS Web site, www.aacps.org, in the Board Docs section under the Board of Education tab.

The general session of the meeting will be broadcast live on AACPS-TV, which can be found on Channel 96 on Comcast and Broadstripe, and Channel 36 on Verizon. High definition broadcasts can be seen on Channel 996 on Comcast and Channel 496 on Broadstripe.
