SCHOOL SYSTEM SPONSORING FIRST-EVER ‘DIVERSITY MATTERS’ WORKSHOP FOR PARENTS

Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ Office of School and Family Partnerships is hosting its first-ever workshop aimed at helping parents understand how cultural values and beliefs influence behavior.

Called “Diversity Matters,” the free workshop is geared toward enabling parents to become more aware of the strengths that all families bring as we work together to ensure the academic success of all children. It will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, at the Carver Staff Development Center, located at 2671 Carver Road in Gambrills.

“The issue of understanding learners from diverse cultures is a critical one as we seek to elevate all students and eliminate all gaps in our school system,” said Teresa Tudor, AACPS’ Senior Manager for School and Family Partnerships. “Parents are a key part of that equation, and this workshop will provide strategies and resources that parents can use to help their children.”

Light morning refreshments will be provided. To register for the workshop, go to www.aacps.org/diversitymatters or call  410-222-5309.
