A story of appreciation for Ms. Doreen Fischetti, from:

Ashely Coe, an AACPS: Parent, Crofton Elementary School

I would like to thank Ms. Doreen Fischetti for being a wonderful teacher this school year.  I can only imagine how mentally and physically challenging it must be to teach 20-25 six and seven year olds with various reading levels, mathematics abilities, backgrounds and experiences.  My son describes her classroom as peaceful.  The soft blue lights, the inviting décor, the light music: Her first grade classroom is a perfect, calming area for little brains to grow and explore.  My son has flourished in her classroom and I appreciate how her teaching style has challenged my son without making him anxious or stressed.  She has spearheaded his enormous growth, but in a calm manner that just felt right. His writing, especially, has grown and she has taught him so much in this area.  I love how, at the age of 7, he is able to write a beautiful, several page paper complete with a conclusion. This is thanks to Mrs. Fischetti. I am so grateful to her for the gains that he has made across the board, but especially in the area of language arts.

My son’s favorite part of her classroom is the time she takes to build relationships with her students on Monday through her “peach and pit” exercise.  He will start to talk about his peach and his pit on the weekend and looks forward to sharing with her and the rest of his classmates.  Although it is a simple exercise, it means a lot to my son to know that someone cares about him above and beyond how well he can read or solve mathematics problems.  Thanks for all you do! Teachers are worth their weight in gold and my son Grayson has been blessed to have Mrs. Fischetti as his first grade teacher.
