Ginger Cove

We are an AACPS: Business Partnership | 2019 Business Partner of the Year Nominee

Recognized for their support of AACPS by the Center of Applied Technology South

Over the last eight years, Ginger Cove has significantly impacted and supported the Center of Applied Technology (CAT) South’s Academy of Health Professions nursing assistant students by providing them with real life on-the-job exposure and entrance into the healthcare world. For most CAT South nursing assistant students, this clinical experience and rotation at Ginger Cove is their first introduction and experience in the healthcare field.  With the current and forecasted demand and need for professional and quality nursing assistants, it is imperative that nursing assistant students are provided a clinical environment that is structured.  This encourages the development of skills necessary to provide quality care that is patient centered.  Ginger Cove, under the direction of Maseray Bayoh-Sensie, Director of Nursing in the Health Center, and Shernell Brown, LPN, ensures CAT South nursing assistant students not only have close supervision and oversight but great mentorship focusing on patient safety.

Maseray and Shernell have organized a fantastic clinical experience for CAT South students allowing them to work in depth with patient care skills through a one-on-one training environment partnered with well-qualified and seasoned GNA staff.  During the clinical rotation, CAT South nursing students arrive weekly to Ginger Cove and are paired with a GNA to care for 7 or more residents for the clinical day. The GNAs from Ginger Cove are hand-selected for their ability to provide education, mentorship, and on-the-job training throughout their daily assignments with patients. This environment allows learning at a slightly slower pace (due to patient/staff ratio) with greater ease and comfort to appropriately perform basic day-to-day personal care tasks in a high quality, relationship driven community.

Masaray and Shernell have provided a seamless clinical operation and experience for our students in addition to a wonderful employment opportunity for graduates of the Academy of Health Professions program.  CAT South currently has four graduates working at Ginger Cove, including Shernell, who is one of the primary organizers of our clinical rotation.  We are truly grateful for our partnership with Ginger Cove and all the great experience and education our students have been fortunate to receive through this partnership.
