Alexis, Grade 5

I am an AACPS: Student, Riviera Beach Elementary School

My Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Lewis, takes time to help everyone with their needs. Even though she is extremely busy she will do anything you need. Like recently I wanted to open a club to help others that are less fortunate in the community and now our club, the Human Relations Committee, consists of 17 members in the group. Our current project is helping kids in need that have leukemia and lymphoma. Mrs. Lewis is awesome to bless people in need.  She is definitely a counselor making a difference. She is the best counselor that anyone could have I’m so grateful for her help and guidance throughout my time in Rivera Beach Elementary. I will miss her when I graduate from fifth grade this year!

A Note from Mrs. Lewis:

It was Alexis who came to me with this great idea to start a service club that would give back to our community! I just helped them get the word out. The Human Relations Committee is comprised of 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students who are interested in giving back to our school and community. Our first project was to collect for Pennies for Patients, which supports the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We have a few other projects planned for the remainder of the school year. We would like to hold a Hygiene for the Homeless drive where the school will collect donations of personal sized hygiene products that we will donate to a local church or homeless shelter. Once the weather gets nice we would like to clean up around the school by picking up trash and litter. Lastly, we would like to volunteer at the Locust Lodge, which is a nursing home within our Riviera Beach community that the students can walk to. If you would like to learn more about the club or support our work, please contact Riviera Beach Elementary School.
